Cycling Australia has issued the following
It has been drawn to our attention that riders are competing in mass start road racing using wheels that are in breach of Cycling Australia’s 2009 Technical Regulations and in particular Annexure 6 – UCI Bike Regulation (1.3.018) which states inter alia “For Massed Start Road Races, only wheel designs granted prior approval by the UCI may be used”

There are wheels currently available within Australia and other parts of the world that have not been passed by the UCI and therefore such wheels are not permitted to be used in any massed start road race conducted under the Technical Regulations of Cycling Australia and its Constituent Associations. Such wheels may only be used in Individual Road Time Trials or may be used in track cycling events provided they comply with the general regulations of track cycling equipment.

At the first Open road race for the 2009 season, the Allan Smith event at Kangarilla 18 April. Ian Fromentin, debuting new club clothing had a great close finish to win in his grade.
